Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about solar energy in Portugal — costs, incentives, installation, warranties and registration.

Technology

How do solar panels work?
The panels convert sunlight into electricity (direct current), which the inverter turns into alternating current for use at home. Any surplus charges the battery or is exported to the grid.
Do I need a battery, or can I install panels only?
You can install panels only and save during the day. A battery maximises self-consumption, gives you power at night and protection during grid outages. The calculator compares both options.
Does the system work during power cuts?
With a battery and a hybrid inverter (backup/EPS function), yes — it powers the essential circuits. Without a battery, the system shuts down for safety when the grid fails.
How many panels fit on my roof?
It depends on the area, orientation and pitch. Each LONGi 650W panel takes up about 2.7 m². We carry out a technical analysis with satellite imagery to work out the ideal number.
Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes, although they produce less. Panels generate electricity from diffuse light; annual production is calculated from the average irradiation in your area.

Costs & incentives

How much does a solar system for my home cost?
On average between €4,000 and €12,000, depending on the power, equipment and battery. The calculator gives you a personalised estimate based on your consumption.
How long until I recover the investment?
Typically 4 to 8 years, depending on your consumption and tariff. With rising energy prices, many customers recover it sooner.
Are there grants or incentives?
Grants (e.g. the Fundo Ambiental) and tax benefits may be available from time to time. Conditions change — we confirm which incentives apply when we prepare your proposal.
Can I sell surplus energy to the grid?
Yes. Energy you do not use can be exported to the grid (UPAC), earning you a payment. Income up to a certain annual limit is also exempt from IRS (Portuguese income tax).
Do you offer financing?
We work with payment schedules (typically 30% upfront / 70% on installation) and can point you to credit/financing options.

Installation

How long does installation take?
The physical installation normally takes 1 to 2 days. The whole process — from simulation to grid connection — takes 2 to 4 weeks, depending on technical approval and scheduling.
Do you handle all the paperwork?
Yes, it is a turnkey service: design, DGEG registration, installation and after-sales support.
Which areas do you cover?
All of mainland Portugal. Head office in Lisbon and warehouse/team in Caldas da Rainha.
Will the installation damage my roof?
No. We use mounting structures suited to each roof type (pitched or flat), keeping the roof watertight and safe.

Warranties

What warranties does the equipment have?
Tier-1 equipment with product and performance warranties of up to 25–30 years (panels), plus specific inverter and battery warranties from each manufacturer.
Do you guarantee the installation?
Yes. On top of the manufacturer warranties, we provide a warranty on the installation work.
Do you offer maintenance?
Yes. We provide monitoring and maintenance to keep your system performing over time.

Registration (DGEG)

Does the system have to be registered with the DGEG?
Self-consumption systems must be notified/registered depending on their power. We handle the process for you. Up to 700 W no registration is needed; between 700 W and 30 kW a prior notification (UPAC) is required.
What is a UPAC?
Unidade de Produção para Autoconsumo (self-consumption production unit) — the legal term in Portugal for a photovoltaic system for your own use, with any surplus exported to the grid.
